In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How does your media product represent particular groups?

Image 1
Image 2

There are many similarities between image 1 and image 2. The way in which my model is sitting on the fence is very relaxed and they look calm. The contrast in the background of both pictures, however image 2 has deliberately been made to contrast against the silhouette, in image 1 the contrast is more natural. The angle of the shots are different, Image 1 has more of an eye view angle, whereas Image 2 has a very low angle shot looking up at the model. The pose they are both in are very simular, neither of them are directly looking at the camera. The backgrounds are different, the reason for this is because I wanted the sky in the horizon, because I wanted to edit my photo, I used a high contrast to create the effect I wanted. The lighting in both photos is coming from behing them, this helps the image shand out and to be able to get a good contrast. The costume, even though you can not see it because i decided to edit it in a particular way, was aimed at a particular audience, the clothing was very modern and stylish which would attract many girls whom could be part of my target population.
The photographs taken are specific to a particular target audience because i could not have it open and appealing to a very wide audience because not everyone likes the same thing and finds it appealing.
However, I should have included QR codes which would appeal much more to my tagrget population because it is a new/modern technology that young people (around my target population) are using much more. I also should have included a Facebook and Twitter page in my magazine to show the audience that we are accessable to everyone on more that one media product, mainly because the younger generation are using technologies like smart phones on a day to day basis therefore will most likely be joined to these social networking sites. Therefore will find these pages benificial.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
IPC may didtribute my Music Magazine because they distribute approximatly 60% of all Magazines, meaning it must be very popular and good at what its doing, also they will have seen and chosen to publish my magazine. Another way in which I could have distributed my magazine is by mentioning or using online magazines where you are updated on what is going to be in your magazine and be a narrative tease to the audience. One way in which I could attract a good publishing company like IPC, is by making a new magazine which could be widening their market or my new magazine may access a niche market. The target audience that I am focusing my music magazine on are teeange girls who like to be rebelious and outgoing, therefore there arent many music magazines that cover girls who like to be 'girly' but also out going and rebelious.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

How did you attract/address your audience?

Front Cover
The ways in which I attracted my aduience on the Front Cover of the music magazine:
I used a particular colour scheme that was followed throughout the Front cover, Contents page and the Double page spread, I stuck to three colours, pink, white and black. The reason i used those colours was because I thought they represented my target audience, because they all stand out. The title also stand out because I used a block of white behind it to make it stand out even more than it would have due to the drop shaddow. One way that I didnt think of using was putting a 'free-bee' on the front cover, alot of different audiences are attracted to a magazine via the 'free-bee' they see. for example, i could have used a new brand of lipgloss as a free-bee for my magazine, however a rock magazine could have used a unheard CD as a free-bee, which could be seen as being a visual tease because it is attracting audiences to the magazine.

Contents Page

On the contents page it could be said that the image that I used could have attracted and audience because it is unusual, and stands out against the text. Also the relevent content on the page attracts an audience because if I was to put a 'pop' magazines content it wouldnt appeal to my audience. The layout for my contents page is quite unique because I have never seen a Music Magazine with the same layout, therefore it may attract a niche market for this. However, the layout for the page number are more typical of a music magazine, the numbers are bigger than thre rest of the text and have a different colour allowing them to stand out against everything else on the page. Also the page titles are above a brief discription of what the page will include, this could be seen as being a narrative tease.
I included a editorial, which could attract the audience by the way they are speaking to the reader, mainly because I tried to use a friendly and not too formal way of writing it.

Double Page Spread
On the Double Page Spread the colours used follow the conventions followed throughout the magazine pages, the reason for this is because, it provides stability for the audience and also sticks to the house style of the magazine. The layout of the double page spread is quite typical, the text is at one side of the page and the image takes up 2/3 of the page, the reason I did this is because it attracts the audience to this page because it is bright and very appealing to my target market, as it shows three young, stylish girls around the same age of my target market.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of contructing this product?

(I used a prezzi to show my response to this question)
Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

In the preliminary task I was very unsure of how to use Photoshop, However, you can see from my music magazine I have come to grips with Photoshop, I played around with the colours and contrast.
Music Magazine
Prelim task

However with the music magazine, I changed my design of the text because it looked too crowded and tacky. I used alot of drop shaddows on my music magazine which helped make the text stand out. The preliminary task (school magazine), I created on publisher therefore didnt give me the desired effect I was wanting.
The layout on both front covers are simular, the reason for this is because it draws the reader/target audiences eye. I didnt use the 3 colours on the prelim task however seeing my music magazine I think it works well, I was able to highlight certain word or important names or particular articles. I also included vital information needed when buying a product, for example a barcode and price.
Music Magazine
Preliminary Task

These are the two content pages, one for my School Magazine and my Music Magazine. They have completely different conventions. For example, the 'Contents' heading, they are both very basic however, I used a drop shaddow on the Music Magazine whereas on the Prelim task I used Publisher rather than Photoshop therefore I was quite restricted in what I was able to do.

If I was to re-do my prelim task I would not use Microsoft Publisher, mainly because I was very restricted in what I was able to do. The style of the magazine, it hasnt followed many conventions of a magazine, it is very basic and boring. However, my Music Magazine Contents page follows the rule of 3rds in more than one way, it is ruffly split into 3 sections and also I have used mainly the same 3 colours used on my Front Cover. I have followed the conventions of a typical music magazine, I made the page numbers much bigger than the text and put brief description of what each page is about under its title. I also included a page number in the bottom right hand corner.
I includes an editorial, which has higlighted parts which, key word, which is the name of the magazine. The background image has a very hight contrast and the level have been adjusted, meaning the colours that I have used for the text stand out from the background due to a high level of contrast and drop shaddows. Also another convention I followed in the Music Magazine and not in the Prelim task was that I included a web address.
